I pulled my phone out of the glove box where I stashed it as we drove down the gum-lined dirt track leading here almost 2 days ago. 43 hrs 23 mins and 4 seconds since we left the grid. But who’s counting? …that’s not actually a rhetorical question, who was counting? We sure as hell weren’t.
With only the sun and the whispers of the tress to tell us the passing of time, we felt the conventional tug of expectations to “get stuff done” lazily fade away as we happily replaced our to-do lists with the feeling of the grass under our bare feet and the rewarding taste of a cold beer after meandering aimlessly through the forest for a while. It’s easy to remember that this is where we come from when you’re out here.
2hrs West of Melbourne, less than 2 podcasts from our desks, we were sitting at the base of the Pyrenees Mountains feeling like we were the only humans around.
Jimmy Hendrix, Bob Dylan, a very Irish coffee. Gave up half way trying to name all the different greens looking back in at us through the window.
Jaffles over the campfire, shared with the spirits of those there before us. Quiet except for the gossiping of the trees. We talked for a while and then stopped, preferring to listen and feeling rude at interrupting. We’re the guests out here.
The end.
