Discovering an Unyoked cabin is always an adventure. We’d know. We’ve visited every one in Victoria (yes, that’s our job) - I thought we’d peaked.

…Then along came this trio.

Many experienced isolation in 2020. The Unyoked experience is different. It’s elective isolation without inundation - inner peace packaged. It lightens the soul.

As an Unyoked Field Correspondent, I capture the essence of solitude, nature unleashed - all of that. Usually, I’ll have to find a special angle that suits the narrative.
But imagine a cabin site where your canvas is a sphere of uninterrupted lines of sight, bathed in the luxury of uninterrupted thoughts. Above you soar eagles, shooting stars. The horizon line gleams with the orange orb of dawn - a show like no other glinting off the frosted grass. It’s a blockbuster film from first light, with a third act featuring galaxies visible with the naked eye. Pure escapism.

We have to earn these Unyoked privileges for the first time in Victoria, via a twenty minute hike up a ridge with choose your own adventure reveals of spectacular views. We start with packs heavy with societal baggage and end as enlightened explorers when Orla comes into view. The sense of true unyoked-ness is deeper than ever.

The hike inspires mindfulness. You whittle life down to physically and mentally carrying only what matters - not Karen’s snide comment at your latest meeting, but that the hike begins at a winery cellar door, and if you want, your mates can book Frankie and Jude hidden somewhere nearby.

To top it off, we wake each morning to a wriggle on our warm feet, reminded our furry friend is welcome here. Shame he can’t share the negronis.

The end.
