Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife.
Baloo, The Jungle Book
Hey, no-one said we were getting too deep here. We were leaving the city in search for somewhere simpler, not going for spiritual enlightenment. As far as spirit animals go Baloo would do just fine. We left behind things, names, noises and obligations. What we found was an emptiness that instead of feeling as some kind of loss, felt like we’d found the thing we’d been searching for all along.
The big sky. Wandering down dirt tracks, in both day and night, it gave us time to look back up, somewhere we’d forgotten to look for too long.
While relishing the opportunity to use our hands for something, our axe:wood ratio left a bit more work than we’d expected. Once done we were reminded of the primal satisfaction of cooking on an open flame, sitting quietly satisfied watching it slowly cook our food in the dusk light.
Sitting with no-one but ourselves we thought the evening away and felt time come and go like waves lapping on the shore, it tried to take us in its grasp but we felt beyond it, satisfied to be rather than do.
